80/20 thinking in life coaching
To understand Esther Dageraad’s approach it may be good to know that she is a (natural) 80/20 thinker. She only came across this term in October 2014 in a book called the 80/20 principle by Richard Koch. Immediately she recognized it as giving so much clarity on:
– why she perceives complex situations so differently from most people and
– how her problem solving skills are helping her and others o find real easy and joyful solutions to progress in life.
What is 80/20 thinking?
The 80/20 referrers to the phenomenon that in life only roughly 20 % of the causes create 80% of the outcomes. It works in a fuzzy logic way, where many values are all playing their part. It is a non-linear process , with the appearance of being random/ illogical.
80/20 thinking in life coaching
Applying this 80/20 ratio, It is highly likely that Esther is part of the minority of the population that is in touch, understands and plays with this fuzzy logic. The majority of people seem to think in linear processes, where one cause is connected to one outcome: “ If I do that, then I’ll see that result.” And vice versa: “ If I want that outcome, I’ll have to do that.”
All is well with that thought pattern, as long as it is proven right and life runs smoothly.
When things go ‘wrong’ and life is perceived as ‘difficult’ or ‘a battle’ and something really has to change for the better… the challenge is obviously to find out ‘ what’ and ‘ how’?
It’s scary. How drastically do you need to overhaul your whole life to achieve what you want, meanwhile having to deal with all your existing responsibilities?
Esther, as an 80/20 thinker, knows that you only need to chance a tiny fraction that will hardly cost you any effort or resources and takes all your existing values into account.
If you invite her into your life as a life coach, she is able to be in touch with all the available data on your life (with no more effort than just being present in your life for a few hours a day, as you are living it) and distil from that the handful of causes that are currently creating 80% or more of your headaches and heartaches.
She doesn’t only look at the whole situation as it stands. She is able to tell you what is causing your aches and she also presents you with a very simple solution on how to transform your situation into one you’ll like much better.
And yes, that is quite likely to challenge your belief system.
Using linear thinking, it is highly likely that you’ll dismiss the given suggestions. Reason?
They are unconventional and so super simple that your belief system concludes fairy easily:” It can’t be that simple!”
The majority of people in this part of the world think that in order to make major changes happen , you need to put major effort in (plus a huge part of scarce resources and struggle for a while or even battle).
How can an insignificantly small change with a flimsy tiny amount of effort make a huge difference?
And yes, not any random flimsily tiny amount of effort leads to the desired change. It does need to be the relevant one. The one thing ( or two maybe) that holds the link to 80% of the outcome on all scores.
And despite possible shocks this gives to your system, on some level you do know that it is possible:
If your car gets hiccups and you are not enjoying the ride so much anymore, the appropriate simple thing to do is to put fuel in the tank. Other simple actions to deal with the unease might be to switch to another gear, comb your hair, stop and eat a sandwich, take the touristic route rather than the motorway, etcetera…..
All short sweet simple actions, that you may enjoy on a short term,. However, you can see they will have little effect on the overall ride, since the underlying cause of the discomfort is that the tank is nearly empty.
In looking at ‘ your life’, Esther feels into your energy transactions and detects the ( usually only 1 or 2) energetic blockages that needs dealing with plus simple ways to do that.
And yes, if you have to sort something out in your head and you are blocking it by thinking ‘ Ican’t sort it out, it is too complicated’ something as simple as organising your sock drawer for ten minutes can resolve that energetic blockage and gets you to sorting something major out with no effort what so ever.
But indeed, that needs something else then linear thinking. It’s highly likely that ‘sorting out your sock drawer’ does not always equal ‘making major progress in your life’, sometimes it is ‘combing your hair’. (-:
Curious to see what the ultra simple solution to your progress in life might be?
Invite her to come over for a while. It could be well worth the very small effort and the contribution from your resources to her life.
